Attendance

Research has proven that regular school attendance is an essential part of giving children the best possible start in life and is directly linked to achievement, wellbeing and wider development.

At Llanwern High School we consider excellent attendance to be above 98% so that all pupils are able to take advantage of the fantastic opportunities available to them. The minimum expectation is that pupils attend at least 95% of the school year.

The school will regularly communicate the attendance record of all pupils and support and guidance is available to families by contacting the Attendance Team.

Punctuality to school

Punctuality to school is extremely important at Llanwern High School to ensure that pupils are not missing out on valuable learning time.

Pupils are expected to be lined up in their form classes for 8:30am each day, ready for morning registration. Pupils who arrive after this need to sign in with a member of the Attendance Team at the side entrance to the school. Pupils who regularly arrive late for school will receive a sanction.

Reporting Absence

If a pupil is unable to attend school, this should be reported by leaving a message with the pupil's name, year/form group, the reason for and expected length of absence by calling 01633 411116.

Alternatively it is also possible to report an absence using ClassCharts

The aim is for all pupils to be in school every day, but we know that there are reasons why this may not always be possible.

Illness / Medical Absences - as a school we appreciate that pupils may be unable to attend school due to illness. This must be reported to the school. Please note, the school is unable to authorise excessive absence due to illness without medical evidence and this will be requested where appropriate. Medical and dental appointments should be booked outside of the school day but where this is not possible, pupils should still attend in the morning or afternoon session.

Holidays - The school's attendance policy is that the school does not authorise holidays during term time. However, requests for leave can be made in writing. Authorisation of absence is at the Headteacher's discretion.
